General information on our fly fishing courses

reducing wear and tear of your fishing equipment and maybe your fishing trip turns our to be even a bit more successful.

Our casting classes are related to real fishing situations and are designed to help the participants fish with a fly in a stress-free and productive way. It is not our intention to offer training to reach a casting competition participant level, but to turn you into a practising fly fisher.

Casting can't be considered to be an end in itself, but rather a means to an end. This spirit serves as basis for the set-up of our courses. Efficient casting, correct presentation of the fly, optimal choice of equipment, adequate treatment of the fish and not least the fun associated with the one-of-a-kind fly fishing experience in natural settings, those are the key aspects of our courses.
If you ask a layman what fly fishing is, often enough the answer will be a rapid up-and-down movement of both arm and hand. Let's thank Brad Pitt for spreading this basic understanding ever since he conquered the cinema screen back in the early 90s with a rod in his hands.

Indeed, the casting of the rod is an essential feature of fly fishing. It is even the indispensable condition precedent to throw the fly at a particular spot in the water.

However, a skilled and elegant fly caster does not neccesarily have to be a good fisher. Still, trained casting skills can help a good deal!

If you know how to use the rod in a calm and controlled way, then you will fish in a more relaxed way, at the same time

way that also repeated visits do not result in high costs for the participants, but rather in a gradual improvement of casting skills following our instructors' guidance, always when Casting-Clinics are attended on a regular basis.

The underlying idea is not to leave the fly fishers alone after having completed a single casting course, but to keep on looking after and to keep on supporting them regularly. Similar to a gym class, we want our participants to train periodically with our assistance. This concept has proven to appeal to our customers, as a result ever since its inception the Casting-Clinic has turned into a fixed fly fishing institution in Hesse.

The fee to participate in a Casting-Clinic amounts to EUR 25,- per person.

Fees are payable the day of the course on site. Course starts at 10 am and ends at 3:30 pm.

The Casting-Clinics that take place regularly are especially designed for advanced casters and fly fishers with a basic understanding, no matter what their casting style.

Those casting courses aim in the first place at correcting errors and inaccuracies when casting, either with one handed or two handed rods of all different rod categories, we practice eg tailing loop, spey cast or distance cast with heavy flies. First of all, we run an analysis of your way of casting and offer then both individual and practice-oriented advice to enable each participant to control and - in the best of all cases - to correct himself/herself.

This course is by no means adequate for rookies as, given its set-up, it does not leave us sufficient time to enter into the very basics of fly fishing. Therefore, we recommend the basic-intensive course to interested beginners.

The price concept of the Casting-Clinic is structured in such a

of fishing gear, correct selection of flies, tying of knots and landing of the fish,so that thereafter no obstacles to start fly fishing successfully will remain.

The fee to participate amounts to EUR 130,- per person (including required licenses, fishing equipment, ie rod, reel and lines that you may use free of additional charge, provided by HARDY & GREYS as well as flies).

Max of only 4 participants per instructor! Course starts at 9:30 am and ends at 4 pm. For you to receive a binding confirmation, we request a partial payment of EUR 50,- in advance.

To those of you who would like to start fly fishing, we recommend to attend our basic-intensive course. Obviously, it's possible to learn how to cast without any course or guidance at all, however experience tells us that this will last substantially longer. On top, errors may creep in and consolidate which at a later stage can only be eliminated with huge efforts of time and work.

Our basic-intensive course is designed for beginners to receive an ample introduction into fly fishing and fly casting while theory, casting exercises and right away practical implementation take place in a balanced way. We cover and practice all necessary topics such as the optimal composition
The next level - Advanced-stage course (EUR 130,-)

Fishing with two handed rods is becoming more and more popular. That doesn't come as a surprise as the two handed rod allows for a particularly effective fishing in streams. With two handed rods it's very easy to control the line and land the fly, turning the two handed rod into the ideal equipment when hunting all different types of salmons. Around our local streams, the two handed rod is the most apt when fishing for asp.

When you touch a two handed rod for the very first time, you'll be surprised how easily the line can be thrown and how far it reaches out!

This basic course may be taken by both experienced one handed fishers as well as total newbies.

The course is structured in such a way that we cover a broad range of topics, from equipment and tools, the step by step build up of a cast, fishing tactics to the correct selection of flies, always stressing the practical relevance.
Intensive and flexible - Individual and group courses (private courses)
For fishing clubs or larger groups, we can design custom-made courses for beginners or advanced-level fishers, for both one and two handed rods. Within the framework of these courses beginners get a thorough and practice-oriented introduction into fly fishing.

During the course, the necessary fishing equipment will be put at your disposal without additional charge.
